What does Fate Electrical actually do?

Fate Electrical is a design-led electrical contractor in Canberra. We design and install the whole electrical side of a home as one system: the electrical fit-out, solar and battery, air conditioning, smart home control, EV charging, and the security, cameras and data that sit inside the electrical package. Most contractors treat those as five separate trades with five separate quotes. We treat them as one job, planned together in 3D before rough-in, so the lighting, the climate zones, the solar and the automation are designed to work with each other and with the architecture. Our work is mainly new homes and renovations, alongside commercial fit-outs and developments. The point is simple: one team, one design, one point of contact, and a finished home where none of the technology looks bolted on afterwards.

Who do you work with — builders, architects or homeowners?

All of them. Our clients are anyone at the table when a home is being built or renovated: the homeowner, the builder, the architect, the interior designer and the developer. Canberra's premium builders keep us on their projects because we coordinate cleanly and hit the program, and homeowners come to us directly because they want more than six downlights in a room and nobody else will design it for them. If you are building with a builder, you can usually still nominate your own electrician — ask early, before the electrical allowance is locked in. If you are an architect or designer, we work from your drawings and hand back a fully coordinated electrical and lighting design. Whoever starts the conversation, the job runs the same way: one design, one team, everything documented for the build.

Where do you work?

We are based in Canberra and work across the ACT and the surrounding region. That covers every district of the city — Belconnen, Gungahlin, the inner north and inner south, Woden, Weston Creek, the Molonglo Valley and Tuggeranong — and it reaches over the border into New South Wales: Queanbeyan, Googong, Bungendore, Murrumbateman, Yass and Braidwood. For the right project we travel further into NSW. There is no minimum job size, but travel time is the honest constraint: a small job an hour away costs more of the day than the job itself, so for smaller work we stay close to home. If you are not sure whether your site is in range, call and ask. It takes a minute to answer, and we would rather tell you straight than quote a job we cannot do well.

Do you do repairs, maintenance or emergency call-outs?

No. We are a design-and-install contractor, not a repair service. We do not take maintenance call-outs, strata work or insurance jobs, and if something in your home has failed a local maintenance electrician will get to you faster and cheaper than we can. What we do want is the work that creates something: a new build, a renovation, a full electrical fit-out, a new solar and battery system, a new air conditioning system or a smart home. That includes replacing tired equipment as part of an upgrade — a new ducted system in place of the old one, a new solar array, a rebuilt switchboard ready for an EV charger. If your job is about making the home better rather than patching what is already there, we are the right call.

Are you licensed and accredited?

Yes. Fate Electrical holds an ACT electrical contractor licence (number 2022856), and every job is carried out and tested to AS/NZS 3000 with the Certificate of Electrical Safety lodged with Access Canberra. For solar and batteries, your federal rebates and STCs depend on the installer's accreditation with Solar Accreditation Australia — we confirm the current position for your job at quote time, in writing, before you commit. For smart homes we design, install and program on the KNX open standard and are KNX certified, so the system is engineered to a global standard rather than assembled from consumer gadgets. Our air conditioning is installed by the same in-house team, ARCtick certified for the refrigeration side, so the electrical, the refrigeration and the controls are one job with one name on it. Founder Michael Dariol is a licensed electrician and owner-operator.
